Apocalypse is a buy-sell-trade resale store ... so let's talk about selling your clothes!
Reselling gently used clothing & accessories is one of the perks of Apocalypse and a key to mitigating the harmful environmental impacts of textile waste + overproduction of clothing that fuels the climate crisis.
We operate as a source of cash or store credit for our sellers. That’s YOU! Based on the resale value of your items, you’ll receive 30% in cash (nothin’ like that bread) or 50% in store credit (swap out for a new-to-you ‘fit).
Why sell?
Did you know that 92 million tons of textile waste ends up in landfills yearly?
Keeping your garments in circulation and out of the dumpster is imperative to protecting our planet from overproduction and overconsumption that is fueled by fast fashion. When you resell with us you help provide our community with an accessible alternative to buying new clothing. The fashion industry at large uses methods that are exploitative of the environment, animals, and garment workers alike—so you’re making an ethical choice, both for you and for the future owner of your gently used clothing. Plus you walk away with cold-hard-cash or new-to-you pieces to add to your wardrobe
What to sell?
It’s time to gather up the items you’re ready to resell. Remember, the items we take will find a loving new home within the Apocalypse community! We buy masculine and feminine styles, vintage and contemporary, designer pieces, accessories, and even fast fashion items! Don’t forget your and shoes, jewelry, hats, handbags, belts, and scarves. We buy the “best of all seasons”, so if you have great pieces that aren’t in season right now, we may still take them or let you know a better time of year to bring them back.
What NOT to sell: No underwear, padded bras, socks, baby clothes, linens, or toys. Keep in mind we rarely take intimates, business attire, or formal wear. Please limit your item count to 30 items or less (if you have more than 30 items you can make multiple appts).
How selling works
18+ Identification is required to sell to Apocalypse (because of Boulder’s secondhand selling laws) so you’ll need a valid government issued photo ID, like a driver’s license or passport. If you aren’t 18+ you’ll need a parent or guardian to accompany you.
Items must be clean so please launder your items before bringing them in, so they are fresh for their next owner. Keep in mind that we only take in items that are in excellent condition. If holes or buttons need to be sewn, stains removed, or scuffs magically erased – please do so ahead of time. We suggest looking at the care label on your garments before selling: if an item requires hand washing or dry cleaning, please do so. Worn shoes often require a wipe down with a rag before they can be sold.
We look for items that are in excellent condition, pieces that are relevant to our community, and styles that have sold well for us in the past.
Our buy counter is open between 11am-5pm most days (with some exceptions). If you want to get in and out within approx. 30 minutes you can book an appointment online through our scheduling system. If you arrive more than 10 minutes late for your appointment you will be accepted as a drop-in, which could mean a longer wait.
Drop-ins are welcome, but not guaranteed, and the wait ranges from 30 minutes to 3 hours. Please call ahead on the day-of to ensure we are taking drop-ins that day (303-938-1924). We ask that you only bring 30 items to sell per drop-in or appt. If you have more than 30 items you can book multiple appointments.
Upon arrival you will be asked to check in, answer a few questions, and confirm our selling agreements. When it’s your turn, one of our seasoned buyers will look through your items and decide if we can buy anything.
Once the buyer has looked through your clothing, they will assign prices to the items they’ve selected on the spot. Our pricing is informed by a number of factors including quality, desirability, original retail, resale prices listed online, and price points of comparable items in our store. After items are priced, they are immediately hung on racks and available for purchase by the public.
If you’d like to review selection and pricing before selling your items, we are more than happy to walk you through the process! Your consent is important to the process and your collaboration with the buyer is welcome.
Once your items are priced you can take 30% of the resale value in cash, 50% in store credit, or a blend of both. Since we are a buy-sell-trade and not a consignment store you get paid out on the spot, the same day that you sell! It’s important to remember that any payout not redeemed the day that you sell, will be forfeit. If you want to use store credit but don’t want to shop same day, no problem! We’ll give you a trade card to bring back another time. Trade is transferrable so you can pass it on to your mom, son, bestie, or grandma! Cash limit is $115, so if your payout is higher than that, we’ll write you a check.
You’ll need to pick up any un-bought items the same day you sell, before we close. Since we aren’t a donation center we require you to take your leftovers with you. If you don’t return to the store the same day, your un-bought items will be discarded. We recommend donating un-bought items to TRU Hospice Thrift Shop or Pig & Pearl Secondhand
